    Faculty Professional Development for the week of Sept. 25-29


    The Investments in Learning Assembly 
    was held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.  Congratulations to over 350 students who were honored for achieving high academic standards and/or perfect attendance during the previous school year.  The Class of 2018 nominees for the Most Valuable Cougar were also named.  The Most Valuable Cougar is the highest recognition given to a student by our school.  The nominees were chosen by the senior class and the winner of the Most Valuable Cougar award will be revealed at the Senior Awards Assembly in May 2019.

    The assembly was concluded with the Graduation Excitement Campaign.  During this $100 cash give-away, any student who passed an end-of-course SOL test or an Industry Credential in the previous school year will have their name entered in to the drawing.  THis year we surpassed our $7,000 goal!     Homecoming Guest Forms are now available in the front office. These forms must be completed in full for any Homecoming guest who is not enrolled at PCHS.  The deadline to submit forms to Mrs. Alger in the front office is Friday, September 29.

    Around the World in a Night is the theme for Homecoming.  The daily themes for Spirit Week (10/2-6) are:
    • Monday: Around the World Day - Students will dress to represent their city from around the world
      • Seniors: Honolulu, Hawaii
      • Juniors: Barcelona, Spain
      • Sophomores: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
      • Freshmen: Sydney, Australia
    • Tuesday: Jersey Day
    • Wednesday: Camo Day
    • Thursday: Throwback Thursday - Dress like a blast from the Past
    • Friday: Burgundy and Gold Day
      ***As always, any apparel must adhere to school rules and the dress code policy
    Senior submissions for Yearbook The yearbook staff is accepting submissions from seniors and any items submitted prior to the deadline are greatly appreciated. Any senior needing another yellow packet should look on the Yearbook Bulletin in the hallway next to my classroom, D-14. Please submit these items to Mrs. McAfee.

      The Gymnasium will be closed on the mornings of Monday, September 18 - Wednesday, September 20 in preparation for the Investments in Learning Assembly. Students are asked to remain in the Commons and blue locker bank until the morning dismissal bell rings.


      Homecoming Guest Forms are now available in the front office. These forms must be completed in full for any Homecoming guest who is not enrolled at PCHS.  The deadline to submit forms to Mrs. Alger in the front office is Friday, September 29.

        • Student Flu Shot forms are due back to the nurse's office.  Flu shots for students will be given on October 11 during the school day by the Health Department.  Forms are available at each school or by clicking HERE

      Faculty Professional Development for the week of Sept. 11-15

      Virginia Governor, Terry McAuliffe, visited several locations in Pulaski County on Friday, September 8.  The first stop was an economic development announcement.  Mrs. Norris' Culinary Arts program at PCHS was selected to cater this event, making it their second catering event for the Governor in under a year.  
             
      Governor McAuliffe then visited Pulaski County High School to view the opportunities available to PCHS students in Cyber Security.  The Governor judged a competition between students to see which group could code their robot to navigate a maze the quickest.

          • School-wide Shelter-In-Place drill.  This drill, much like fire and tornado drills, is designed to protect the safety of our students and staff by preparing them to respond calmly and effectively in the case of a real emergency. Please take this opportunity to have valuable discussions with your child about safety during any emergency situation. Please be assured that student safety is always of the greatest importance for the entire PCHS staff.
            A telephone call-out will be conducted on Wednesday evening (9/6) as a reminder that this drill will take pace on Thursday morning.
          • Permission forms (parent permission & health information) are due back to guidance for Juniors and Seniors wishing to attend the College Fair at RU on Sept. 15
