Faculty Professional Development for the week of April 30 - May 4

Sports physicals will be provided to Pulaski County Public School students who will be enrolled in the 6th through 12th grades during the 2018-2019 school year.  Pulaski County High School, in conjunction with Lewis Gale Hospital Pulaski, is excited to offer this service. The physicals will take place at PCHS in the Career and Technical Education Building on Wednesday, May 9 beginning at 3:30 pm.  The cost will be $10 dollars and students should arrive with their Virginia High School League physical form completed and signed by both student and parent/guardian.  Physical forms are available in the front offices of Pulaski County High School, Pulaski Middle School, and Dublin Middle School, or can be printed at vhsl.org . In an attempt to expedite this process, the start time for current PCHS students is 3:30 pm. Current middle school students should arrive no earlier than 4:25 pm to prevent overcrowding and congestion.

On Thursday, April 26th, around 4:30PM the administration at PCHS was made aware of an incident in the Town of Pulaski near Wurno Road.  We were told to immediately place the school on lockdown due to the concern that the suspect involved was armed and his whereabouts were unknown.
Immediately an announcement was made at PCHS to place the school on lockdown and further information was provided regarding the nature of the situation.  From that point the school administration fanned out across campus to ensure that each group was able to follow lockdown protocol and to provide additional information regarding the situation in Pulaski.  After-school events were postponed and all students (including visiting teams) were moved to secure locations.  Students were permitted to leave with parents/guardians after verification was made of their identity.  Student drivers were asked to wait until the parking lots were secure and then these groups were escorted to their vehicles.
I would like to thank all of our faculty and staff who assisted in making this emergency situation run as smoothly of possible.  Their calm demeanor and willingness to assist speaks volumes about their character, the love they have for our students, and their dedication to our community.  I would estimate that we had around 400 students and 1/20th of our faculty and staff still on campus at 4:30.  The ability of this group to step-up and ensure the safety and security of these students demonstrates the professionalism of our faculty as a whole.
-Mr. Grim
