First Day of School - 2019

First Day of School

Welcome back!

The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 14, 2019.  Pulaski County High School will be running on a FULL DAY schedule (8:28 AM - 3:22 PM).

PCHS Daily Schedule:

All 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students will receive new light blue schedules in their first block class.
Explanation about schedule colors:
  • Yellow paper schedules are obsolete.  These were handed out on schedule pick-up night and in most cases are no longer accurate.
  • Light blue paper schedules are current.
  • White paper schedules are schedule changes made by school counseling after schedules were printed on blue. These are the MOST accurate and supersede any of the other schedule colors.
  • Please see a teacher if you have questions.
Please take a moment to view the calendar of events for this weekend.

9th Grade Orientation Day, 8/13/2019

9th Grade Orientation Day - August 13, 2019

Welcome, Pulaski County High School Class of 2023!

Orientation Days in Pulaski County Public Schools were created so that the youngest grade level in each school were given an opportunity to get acclimated to their surrounding without the rest of the school's student body present.   The Freshmen Orientation Day will run on the two-hour early release schedule (8:28 AM - 1:22 PM).  The first day of school for ALL student on Wednesday, August 14 will be a FULL day.

The faculty and staff at Pulaski County High School are excited to meet their newest students and are prepared to assist the freshmen class in any way possible as they explore their new home.  The Orientation Day schedule is designed to permit freshmen to meet their teachers and classmates, interpret their course schedule, learn their class locations and the campus layout via tours, attempt to open their locker, identify resources & supports throughout campus, and begin to develop the ideals of Cougar P.R.I.D.E.

Students will run through their class schedule twice.  The first run through their schedules will have 56 minutes classes and allow time to meet their teachers and classmates.  The second run through will be a sprint (4 minute classes) and will culminate with fourth block and then being dismissed for the day at 1:22.

Back to School Letter - 2019-20

    Dear Cougar Parents and Students:

Welcome to a new school year at Pulaski County High School! We are making plans and setting goals for the 2019-2020 school year that focus on academic excellence.  Ultimately, the primary purpose of any high school is to assist young adults in setting their own goals and preparing them to achieve their dreams and aspirations.  Pulaski County High School is able to assist all students in reaching their goals by continuing our tradition of excellence and quality, yet we strive to improve and provide greater opportunities for our children. With an atmosphere of high expectations, mutual respect, and cooperation from everyone, we can become the best high school in the state.

The PCHS faculty and staff accept the challenge to continue to build on our past successes and provide all students with an education that prepares them for the future.  The task, simply stated, is to serve the educational needs of every student and the needs of our community.

In the student activities area, we were especially proud of the fact that more than 75% of our student body participated in one or more extracurricular activities.  In the athletic area, more than 42% of our students participated in one or more sports programs.  We strongly believe that the greatest outcome of each of the student activities programs is the fact that students learn valuable lessons in discipline, self-sacrifice, teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

Teaching and learning is our primary purpose, and we will continue to focus on that all-important task.  Students who are well-behaved and serious about learning have the best opportunity to achieve maximum success.  Therefore, there will also be added emphasis on proper student behavior.  When students fall short of acceptable behavior, they will receive necessary and proper guidance and correction.  Parents and students need to be aware that a chronic pattern of poor choices—choices that violate the rules and the order of the school will not be tolerated.  Parents and students need to understand that a “preponderance of misconduct” can result in the student being identified as being not in good standing, which could limit the opportunities available to them at PCHS. Additionally, discipline infractions may result in discipline which may include long-term suspension from school.

A special message to our upcoming senior class—we need your help to have a great year!  The senior class should be the heart of our school.  You should interact with others in a warm and friendly manner, value education, and recognize your teachers, peers, and family as valuable human beings.  We want your class to provide us with strong positive leadership.

As the opening of school nears, we hope you will be as excited as we are.  I would like to call special attention to the “Schedule Pick-Up Days" below, and the “Investments in Learning Assembly” on Wednesday, September 25, and the Freshman Transition Day on Tuesday, August 13th, (first day of school for all 9th grade students) with a two hour early release (8:28 a.m. – 1:22 p.m.).

Please note:  The first day of school on Wednesday, August 14 is a full school day (8:28AM - 3:22PM).

As the new school year opens, you continue to become a part of a rich tradition.  We expect each of you to strive to “be all you can be.”  Our school is a special place and our students must be the best.

    SCHEDULE PICK UP DAYS

Last year school got off to a great start because many of those things that need to be dealt with— taking care of all financial matters and picking up schedules—were handled during our pre-school pay fees and take-care-of-business days.  On one of the following days you and/or your parents are expected to come to the Commons area to pick up your class schedul and pay any associated fees. The School Nutrition Program Manager will be available to take payments for student lunch accounts during “Schedule Pick-Up” days August 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
